We asked ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity the questions a traveller would ask, in Spanish, English and German: where to stay, where to eat, what to do and how to get around, across six areas of the island. We read 1,796 answers.

For hotels, Tenerife gets no names.
When someone asks for a hotel on the island, the assistants name actual places in only one answer in six (16.7%). For Gran Canaria it happens in one in three (35%), for Mallorca in 21.7%. In English, Tenerife gets no names at all.

The island's tourism site shows up among the sources in only 16.9% of answers. Booking and review platforms show up in 57.9%: today they are the ones telling AI what Tenerife is.

Each language gets a different island.
People asking in German mostly get different names from people asking in Spanish: only 131 names appear in all three languages.
