In Barcelona, Mador asked the AI where to order new windows, which workshop gives good value for money, where to go to have them replaced. The same questions went to ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. Of the 20 window companies measured, 18 were never named by any of the three.
These are real companies, each with a website of its own, checked one by one before the measurement. Anyone in Barcelona asking the AI who should replace their windows did not hear their names that day.
Even the ones that show up rarely do
The most named company in Barcelona appears in 2 answers out of 15. So even the luckiest one is left out almost every time: thirteen answers out of fifteen do not mention it.
In Barcelona there is nobody the AI treats as the answer. The spot is still open.
Nine cities
The measurement also ran in Milan, Rome, Naples, Turin, Florence, Madrid, Valencia and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Across all of them, 54 window companies out of 75 were never named by any of the three assistants, just under three in four.
In some cities only a handful of companies were measured, and on their own they do not say much. Together they say the same as Barcelona.
Where the AI goes instead
Every answer comes with the list of sites the assistant opened to write it. In Barcelona, Houzz is there in 9 answers out of 15, and Habitissimo often shows up too: these are the sites where people find contractors, compare them and ask for quotes.
For the AI, a window company is a listing on a quotes site. The company's own website comes later, if it comes at all.
What cannot be said
These are 5 questions, three assistants and two consecutive days. Other questions or other assistants may give other numbers. Mador built the list, taking only companies with a website of their own: it is not every company in the city, and the AI may have named firms that were not on the list. The ones that do not show up may still be on the quotes sites the AI reads.
On 1 October 2026, in Barcelona, running a window company with a website was not enough for the AI to name it.
