13 of 18 sites built with AI are a blank page to AI

0
sites that stopped the reader, or that shut an assistant out in robots.txt

The first three rows add up to 18. The last one says none of the 18 keeps the assistants out: the fault is inside the page.

Source Check run by Mador on 30 September 2026 with Readable on 18 public sites built with Lovable, Base44 and Bolt. They came out of a search, not a random draw, and none of them is named.

On 30 September 2026 Mador opened 18 public sites made with the builders that write the site for you: 15 with Lovable, 2 with Base44, 1 with Bolt. Mostly restaurants and pizzerias, then hairdressers, dental practices, a barber. Each one was read the way an assistant reads it, which means without running the JavaScript. In 13 cases out of 18 the page came back empty.

A pizzeria: 9 characters out of 8,720

A pizzeria's home page, opened in a browser, carries 8,720 characters of text. Read without JavaScript it carries 9. A trattoria has 2,545 in the browser and 0 without. A barber's site made with Base44 does slightly better: 118 out of 3,101.

Whoever wrote those texts did nothing wrong. The site leaves the server as an empty box with a program next to it, and the program fills the box in the browser of the person looking. A person sees a full page. A reader that does not run the program sees the box, and most of the assistants' readers do not run it.

It cannot get in, or it gets in and finds nothing

These are two different faults, and they get fixed in two different places.

In the first, the assistant is left outside. It is told so by robots.txt, the file where a site writes down who may read it. Or it is stopped by a protection like Cloudflare's, which answers automated readers with a verification page. On these 18 that did not happen: 0 stopped, and no robots.txt shutting the door on an assistant. All 18 sit behind Cloudflare, and the reader got through anyway.

In the second, the door is open and there is nothing behind it to read. That is the 13. It is also the one nobody notices from the inside, because whoever made the site opens it in their own browser and it looks fine.

The hairdresser that reads in full

Of the 18 sites, 4 can be read in full, and all 4 are made with Lovable. A hairdresser has 1,835 characters in the browser and 1,835 without JavaScript. Same builder as the empty pizzerias.

So Lovable can do both, and the difference is in how the site gets published. If the text is already in the page that leaves the server, anyone can read it. If the browser writes it, only someone with a browser can. The first can be asked of the builder in one sentence, in the same chat where the site was asked for: every page should arrive with all its text already in the HTML.

The last of the 18 has 84 characters in all, with or without JavaScript. There is little to read there for anyone.

What this does not say

The 18 sites came out of a search, not a random draw: 13 out of 18 is the count for this group, not the share of every site built this way. Only the home page was read. And a page that is empty without JavaScript can still be read by an assistant that brings a browser along. Those are the minority.

The same check is free for any address, at mador.ai/leggibile. Paste the site in and a few seconds later it shows whether AI gets in, and how much text it finds.

Method

  • 18 home pages, each read twice: once without running the JavaScript, once inside a browser.
  • All on 30 September 2026, in the same afternoon.
  • The reader introduces itself as Mador's reader and does not pose as an assistant.
